Overview
The ECOSTEP 23S63-0650 is a compact rotary servo motor at the high-torque end of the ECOSTEP 23S series. With a 60 mm flange, 145 mm motor length, and a mass of approximately 2.4 kg, it delivers 2.73 Nm rated torque at 500 min⁻¹, up to 4 Nm peak torque, and speeds up to 2000 min⁻¹ at a 60 V DC link. This makes it suitable for demanding rotary axes where high torque and dynamic behaviour are required in a limited installation space.
Standard protection is IP40, with an option for IP65 housing (shaft seal remains IP40). A 10 mm shaft diameter, defined radial and axial load limits, and a motor inertia of 0.15 × 10⁻³ kgm² support robust integration into machine mechanics. Combined with encoder options, holding brake, gear variants, shaft/flange versions, and different connector types, the 23S63-0650 can be configured precisely for the application and the chosen JAT servo amplifiers.
Advantages
The ECOSTEP 23S63-0650 supports high-torque servo axes in compact machines and multi-axis systems.
- When high torque at low speed and precise control are required, ECOSTEP motors provide a cost-efficient alternative to traditional servo motors.
- High torque at low speed:2.73 Nm rated and 4 Nm peak torque in a 60 mm flange facilitate direct drive in many applications. This often saves a gearbox or reduces external gear stages.
- Dynamic servo operation: A 0.54 Nm/A torque constant, speeds up to 2000 min⁻¹, and a 50-pole pair design support rapid acceleration, controlled braking, and accurate positioning in demanding motion profiles.
- Configurable platform: Incremental, absolute, and SinCos encoder options, mechanical variants, and IP65 housing allow one motor type to cover different machine versions, load cases, and environmental conditions.
Where it fits
The ECOSTEP 23S63-0650 fits torque-intensive rotary axes where space is limited but dynamic performance is required.
- Rotary axes in packaging and special machinery for format adjustment, sealing heads, or indexing tables requiring high torque at moderate speeds
- Handling and positioning units in automation and robotics where compact direct drive solutions simplify mechanics
- Rotary stages in lab, test, and inspection equipment requiring stable speed, high-resolution feedback, and repeatable positioning
- Auxiliary high-torque axes in multi-axis systems (presses, clamping, feed mechanisms) sharing a common DC bus and JAT drive platform
These are application examples and do not represent specific approvals.
Interfaces
The ECOSTEP 23S63-0650 is designed for straightforward integration into JAT drive systems, typically at 60 V DC (up to 90 V DC link where required).
- Feedback interfaces:
- Incremental: 8,000 to 160,000 inc/rev
- BiSS-B absolute: Up to 17-bit single turn and 12-bit multi-turn
- SinCos: 1000 periods per revolution with programmable resolution for finer interpolation
- System integration: Matched drive system with recommended JAT servo amplifiers ECOVARIO 114(D), ECOMODUL, and ECOMiniDual. Defined mating connector sets and pre-assembled cable extensions are available for motor, brake, and encoder.
- Flexible connection: Different connector types and cable assemblies help standardise wiring across ECOSTEP 23S axes and simplify commissioning
