Overview
The ECOSTEP 23S31-0650 is a high-performance rotary servo motor in the ECOSTEP 23S series. It combines a NEMA 23 frame size with a longer housing length of 109 mm and a mass of approximately 1.4 kg, delivering significantly higher torque in a compact footprint.
Operating at a 60 V DC link, the motor delivers 0.69 Nm rated torque at 1000 min⁻¹ and approximately 72 W rated power. This performance is suitable for demanding axes with higher load and continuous torque requirements. Standard protection is IP40, with an optional IP65 housing for harsher environments (shaft gland remains IP40). Extensive mechanical options, including holding brakes, gear variants, and diverse shaft/flange versions, allow the ECOSTEP 23S31-0650 to be adapted to the mechanics and JAT servo amplifiers used in the axis.
Advantages
The ECOSTEP 23S31-0650 provides high-torque NEMA 23 performance for compact but demanding servo axes.
- When high torque at low speed and precise control are required, ECOSTEP motors provide a cost-efficient alternative to traditional servo motors.
- Compact and powerful: High torque relative to the NEMA 23 frame and 109 mm length supports powerful motion in limited installation space.
- Direct drive capability: High rated and peak torque values enable direct drive concepts, often eliminating the need for external gear components.
- High dynamic servo performance: Genuine servo operation supports rapid start-stop motion, precise speed control, and accurate positioning.
- Application-specific configuration: Mechanical options, shaft/flange variants, and encoder choices allow the motor to match the application rather than adapting the machine to the motor.
- Economic efficiency: A strong price-to-performance ratio makes it an effective alternative to AC servo motors in similar tasks.
Where it fits
Use this compact rotary servo motor when installation space is limited but NEMA 23 torque and dynamics are required at a higher level than shorter 23S variants.
- Dynamic rotary or linear axes in assembly and handling systems
- Packaging, indexing, and format adjustment axes in compact machines
- Medium to heavy pick-and-place units with higher load or inertia
- Rotary actuators in laboratory, analysis, or inspection equipment with increased torque demand
- Servo axes in special machinery and robotics where high torque and precise positioning are required
Interfaces
The ECOSTEP 23S31-0650 is designed for operation in the 60 to 90 V DC range and is optimised for use in JAT drive systems.
- Encoder and feedback options:
- Incremental ABN: Standard with resolutions from 8,000 to 160,000 increments per revolution.
- SinCos: Option with 1000 periods per revolution and programmable resolution.
- Absolute BiSS-B: Up to 17-bit single turn and 12-bit multi-turn, with single-turn resolutions up to 19-bit and incremental resolutions up to 256,000 inc/rev available on request.
- Mechanical and protection options: Optional holding brake, gear variants, shaft with key or long shaft options, and customised flanges. An IP65 housing option is available (shaft gland remains IP40).
- System integration: Recommended servo amplifiers include ECOVARIO 114D, ECOMODUL, and ECOMiniDual. Matching coupling sets and pre-assembled motor (plus brake/encoder) cable assemblies support reliable wiring and shorten commissioning.
