Compact servo drive - Motor and servo amplifier in one
Overview
The ECOMPACT E100-34E90 is a decentralized compact servo drive that combines a high pole synchronous motor and servo amplifier in a single NEMA 34 housing. It is part of the ECOMPACT E100 series, featuring standard IP40 or optional IP54 protection, and is designed for a max DC link voltage of 60 VDC with a peak torque of 8.2 Nm and a stall torque of 5.6 Nm at speeds up to 2000 rpm. This gives a strong torque to size ratio in a standard 86 mm flange format for demanding positioning tasks.
Mounted directly on the machine frame, the E100-34E90 moves the power stage and control intelligence out of the control cabinet and onto the axis. This reduces cabinet footprint, shortens motor cabling and supports linear wiring topologies. The ECOSTEP high pole design provides smooth sinusoidal commutation and high torque at low speeds, which is well suited for direct drive operation where backlash from external gearboxes should be avoided.
Within the ECOMPACT E100 platform, configurations with incremental or absolute encoders, holding brake and shaft variants are available, so engineers can align feedback, holding torque and mechanical interface with their machine concept while keeping the same decentralized axis design.
Advantages
- Reduces cabinet space and wiring effort because the motor and servo amplifier sit in one unit on the machine, supplied from a shared DC link, so long shielded motor cables and large cabinet drives are not required.
- Provides high torque in NEMA 34 size with up to 8.2 Nm peak torque, which supports direct drive concepts and helps reduce or eliminate external gearboxes in many applications.
- Improves motion quality and efficiency through the ECOSTEP high pole synchronous design and sinusoidal commutation, which support smooth torque delivery and precise low speed control.
- Supports modular, scalable machine design since each axis becomes a self contained motion node that can be built, tested and reused as part of a decentralized architecture.
- On drive intelligence and diagnostics with digital current, speed and position control, vibration damping filters, jerk filters and ECOSTUDIO tools help optimize motion profiles and reduce mechanical stress over the machine lifetime.
- Adapts to environments: Standard IP40 for clean zones or optional IP54 for harsh areas, allowing direct mounting near dust or splashing water without extra enclosures.
Where it fits
- Direct drive positioning axes that need high torque and stiffness without the backlash and additional components of a gearbox.
- Heavy handling, lifting and Z axes where strong torque at low speed and reliable holding behavior are important for process stability.
- Cutting, feeding and forming applications that require stable torque and accurate positioning in the speed range up to 2000 rpm on a compact NEMA 34 frame.
- Decentralized low voltage machines built around a 60 VDC bus, where cabinet space is limited and drives are mounted directly on the frame as standardized axis modules, adaptable to pollution degree 3 areas via the optional IP54 sealing.
Interfaces
- Control modes for digital torque, speed and position control with configurable limits so motion behavior can be adapted to different loads and duty cycles.
- Fieldbus connectivity with DS402 drive profile support via CANopen and EtherCAT, enabling integration into common PLC architectures and synchronized multi axis systems with linear wiring between drives.
- Local digital I/O with 5 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs for connecting limit switches, reference sensors and status or brake signals directly at the axis.
- Filtering and motion optimization through digital vibration filters and parameterizable jerk filters that smooth motion transitions and help reduce wear on mechanical components.
- Commissioning and diagnostics via ECOSTUDIO with wizard based parameterisation, an integrated motor and encoder database and oscilloscope functions, which support fast setup and clear analysis during service and optimization.
