Overview
The ECOSTEP 34S502-0700 is a high-torque servo motor in the ECOSTEP 34S50x family, designed for compact NEMA 34 axes requiring strong torque at moderate speeds. With an 86 mm flange, 152 mm motor length, 12 mm shaft diameter, and a mass of approximately 4 kg, it provides 3.3 Nm rated torque at 500 min⁻¹ and up to 7 Nm peak torque. Rated power is 175 W at a 325 V DC link, with speeds up to 2500 min⁻¹, allowing the motor to handle demanding intermittent loads in industrial duty cycles.
The design follows the ECOSTEP principle of power based on torque. A 0.86 Nm/A torque constant, 0.25 Ω winding resistance, and 1.9 mH inductivity support responsive current control and dynamic positioning. Standard protection is IP40, with an optional IP65 housing available (shaft gland remains IP40). Axial and radial load limits of 180 N and options such as holding brakes, different shaft/flange variants, and IP65 protection allow the 34S502-0700 to be integrated into diverse machine concepts.
Advantages
The ECOSTEP 34S502-0700 supports torque-intensive servo axes where compact size, dynamic behavior, and economical performance are critical.
- When high torque at low speed and precise control are required, ECOSTEP motors provide a cost-efficient alternative to traditional servo motors.
- High torque density:3.3 Nm rated and 7 Nm peak torque in a NEMA 34 package often allow direct drive implementation. This eliminates the need for a gearbox and simplifies external mechanics.
- Dynamic servo operation: A genuine servo design with 50 pole pairs and a 0.86 Nm/A torque constant supports rapid acceleration, controlled braking, and accurate positioning.
- Adaptable platform: Options for encoders, a 5 Nm holding brake, mechanical variants, and customer-specific winding adaptations allow the motor to be tuned to the exact operating point and control strategy.
Where it fits
The ECOSTEP 34S502-0700 fits demanding automation tasks that combine high torque and precise positioning in limited space.
- Main rotary axes in packaging and process machinery where format changes, sealing, cutting, or indexing require high torque at moderate speeds
- Positioning, clamping, and feed drives in special machinery where direct coupling to screws, levers, or tables reduces complexity and backlash
- Handling and transfer units for heavier workpieces or tools utilizing a compact NEMA 34 footprint
- Axes in test, assembly, or forming equipment where reproducible torque, stable speed control, and long-term reliability are required
Interfaces
The ECOSTEP 34S502-0700 is designed for straightforward integration into JAT drive systems with DC link voltages up to 370 V.
- Encoder systems:
- Incremental: 8,000 to 160,000 increments per revolution
- Absolute: Up to 17-bit single-turn and 12-bit multi-turn (optionally up to 19-bit single-turn)
- SinCos: 1000 periods per revolution for high-resolution feedback
- System integration: Matched with the ECOVARIO 414 servo amplifier, which is aligned to the electrical data of the 34S502-0700 and supports control interfaces such as CANopen and EtherCAT with integrated STO safety.
- Accessories:M17 mating connector sets and pre-assembled motor, brake, and encoder cables with defined bend radii help standardize wiring and support reliable commissioning.
