Precise Wafer Positioning in Semiconductor Manufacturing
Between all process steps, automatic handling and Pick & Place movements are carried out for transporting sensitive materials. JAT develops multi axis systems for nanometre level positioning. Each platform is custom engineered for the specific customer application in industry, research or medical technology. The systems are mounted on high precision granite bases and supported by air springs for vibration isolation.
Inspection – AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) and X-ray Systems
Automated high speed inspection systems are used to check solder joints, SMD assembly or wire bonds. In optical inspections, a camera moves precisely over the circuit board in XY direction. At specific coordinates, images are captured and compared with CAD data using inspection software.
Processing and Assembly
Tasks include CNC or laser drilling, inspection, marking and labelling, followed by panel separation. Large panels, also called arrays, are processed using precision milling or laser cutting. A finished array measuring 25 by 25 inches can be separated into 60 to 80 individual PCBs for smartphones through routing or punching.
