They handle the exceptionally precise positioning and the corrections of the quills within the Dynamic Rest – with high dynamics and absolute reliability, even under demanding conditions. This is exactly where the decisive role of sophisticated drive technology in the overall performance of modern machine tools becomes evident.
WEMA has been developing and manufacturing WOTAN® grindingmachines in Glauchau for almost 100 years and is today part of the NSH Group.
In this application, an ultra-precision #externalgrinding machine, the WOTAN® S3A, is used to grind parts up to 2,000 mm in length and 600 kg in weight with accuracy in the sub-micrometer range.
The WOTAN® Dynamic Rest used here do more than support the workpiece against deflection – they automate what previously required years of acquired expert knowledge: the automatic follow-up adjustment of the Dynamic Rest to compensate for minimal out-of-roundness down into the sub-micrometer range.
The capability of this solution is evident even under the most demanding conditions: the Dynamic Rest were developed and tested to IP65 (completely dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction) as well as IP67 (completely dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion), ensuring reliable use in wet grinding processes.
