Our Environmental Guidelines
We handle resources responsibly so that we can cut consumption and boost performance. We therefore keep waste to an absolute minimum, separate every waste stream for recycling and reuse incoming packaging for outgoing deliveries, exchanging returnable containers with customers wherever possible. These measures reduce both packaging material and the waste it generates. Using fresh water sparingly is second nature to us. Drainage water irrigates our largely greened roofs, creating a cool-air corridor for the surrounding area and lowering the building’s cooling demand.
Using energy efficiently
All the electricity we purchase comes from renewable hydro and wind power. For heating legacy buildings we enrich natural gas with hydrogen produced from surplus renewable energy. During our 2020 site expansion we installed photovoltaic modules over the new delivery bays; going forward the generated power will cover on-site demand. A battery system absorbs load peaks and bridges low-generation periods, and we plan to enlarge its capacity. The entire building rests on deep piles whose activated concrete cores let us tap geothermal energy; a heat pump provides low-impact heating and cooling, sharply cutting fossil fuel use.
Preserving biodiversity
In response to the ongoing decline in insects, our staff association Antriebsgefährten e.V. maintains beehives on the premises and manages land ecologically. We have created a meandering stream with a spring-fed pond next to our production halls to embed our riverside site into its natural surroundings. Orchard meadows, wild shrubs and other native species enhance the landscape. Regulated maintenance and action against invasive plants are essential to support healthy local flora and fauna.
Promoting sustainable mobility
Inner-city logistics are covered by electric vehicles, and we keep adding non-fossil cars to the fleet. Employees influence JAT’s traffic footprint through their daily commute, so we actively encourage greener choices by offering company bike leasing and subsidised public-transport season tickets.
Protecting people and the environment
Small quantities of hazardous substances such as paints, cleaners and lubricants are stored in locked cabinets, collected after use in dedicated containers and disposed of by certified specialists. Avoiding environmental harm and safeguarding health always take priority. Regular servicing of plant and buildings minimises any potential impact.
Ensuring transparency
We stay in close contact with our employees and nurture environmental awareness through regular training, surveys and open reporting on JAT’s environmental performance. We also communicate our social and ecological engagement externally: public tree-planting campaigns and site maintenance aim to motivate other firms to act. In addition, we support school projects to involve young people and spark interest in science and technology.
Complying with legal requirements
To meet all binding obligations we regularly analyse the energy and material flows needed for our operations, monitor emissions and waste from production and consider stakeholder requirements in every decision. Ongoing monitoring and company-wide communication keep legal information current and build a shared understanding of its application, ensuring resources are handled sustainably.
Continuous improvement
At defined intervals we review and assess every environmental aspect arising from JAT’s activities, deriving new objectives for continuous improvement. In this way we embrace fresh challenges and keep driving our business towards ever more sustainable performance.
